Three of the course's five toughest holes are among the opening four. The golfer is due a breather here and gets it, but not as much of one as it used to be. The stream that bisects the fairway and turns left in front of the green was widened to the right, closer to the center of play, before the 2000 tournament so that it now nudges the front of the green. It will swallow second shots that come up short. There is still room to run a second shot into the right side of the green, but it's protected in front by a pot bunker and on the side by a shaved hollow that will carry balls away from the green. Shots out of the hollow will have to deal with a green slanting toward the water.
