The first shot of the day needs to be accurate, because three bunkers at the crook in the dogleg guard the right side, and the fairway slants left toward rough, trees and a creek. "A 3-wood might make more sense (than a driver), even though it will leave a longer approach," course designer Jack Nicklaus said. The approach shot is to the largest green on the course, but it is surrounded by four bunkers and has a plateau in front that will send the under-hit approach to the right.
